Lots of Unionists were upset yesterday after learning that the Scottish Government's flag policy had changed, after approval by the Queen, eight years ago.

Ruth Davidson was angry, Murdo Fraser was angry, Jacob Rees-Mogg was angry. But nobody, as far as we can tell, was as angry as the readers of the Mail Online.

Nearly 7000 people were so infuriated by something they hadn't noticed for nearly a decade that they went online to froth and rage in the Mail's notoriously fiesty comments section.

The most popular contribution beneath the flag story came from Bristolbeau, from Bristol, whose response was up-voted (approved) 11,115 times by fellow Mail readers.

"Absolutely bloody scandalous," he thunders. "Many tens of thousands of Scottish troops have died fighting for the Union flag and what it represents, this woman is abhorrent and needs to be taken down a peg or two."

Pete from Dorchester agrees. "When is she reforming the krankies double act?"

"The stuck up, self obsessed little weasel," says Paul from Bagshot. "Absolutely no manners."

Robin of Dorset, from Christchurch, is upset for the royal family, we think. "She is not just snubbing the Queen she is snubbing the whole nation."

"She's no different to other well known dictators," says Sarah7606. "Poisonous."

RabbitNumberOne from Whitby says: "What a nasty and diversive woman Sturgeon is." We think he means divisive.

Despite the fact that Sturgeon actually had nothing to do with the change, which was made by Alex Salmond and her Majesty, Moskin from Devon simply states: "She is a bitter woman."

Myth of the news, from Sidmouth, says seemingly without any irony: "How much is England subsidising Scotland with every year?? About time it was stopped."

Myopinion from Bolton also gives an opinion: "She is not a woman, she is a child. A pathetic one preferring to waste public money discussing this rather than the countrys (sic) real issues. Deluded dictator."

Joliefan from Blackpool may be a fan of Jolie, but they're not a fan of our First Minister. "Excuse me, but the last time I looked Scotland was part of the Union, and the Queen was head of state?" they wonder. "This treacherous little midget should get back in her box."

Sturgeon is an enemy of the state. That's the verdict of Graham from Sheffield. "A very vicious divisive woman who hates everything English / British and is not fit to be a leader of any party within the UK, an enemy of the state without doubt," he says.

k8iejo from Glasgow, says: "She's an absolute stain on Scotland. We had our referendum - we're British whether you like it or not. And that flag represents the very fabric of our great nation. We should be encouraged to fly it with pride."

There are many other comments we choose not to share with you, including a particularly vile one of which more than 300 of the Mail's readers apparently approved.

Remember, though, readers ... it's the 'Cybernats' who have poisoned the political debate in Scotland.
