A PRO-INDEPENDENCE campaign group is calling on activists to "populate" footpaths and bridges over the M8.

The YesM8 group are encouraging indy supporters to wave flags and drop banners along the busy stretch of motorway with the intention of catching the eye of passing motorists.

The demonstration will take place at prominent points between Glasgow and Edinburgh on Saturday, April 7, however Twitter users have been wary of the planned action.

Some have expressed concerns that the stunt would be a distraction to drivers and could lead to accidents, though YesM8 claim the event is to raise visibility and not intended to cause disruption.

Former Holyrood Presiding Officer and SNP MSP Tricia Marwick tweeted “If they want to do something then get out leafleting or knocking doors.”

The campaigners are currently seeking "local co-ordinators" via social media, in the hope that they will be able to drape flags from over 70 crossings along the motorway route.
