DAILY RECORD editor Murray Foote, the man behind the famous Vow front page days before the independence referendum, will be resigning from his position at the paper.

Foote has held the position for four years and will be stepping down on March 2.

He said: "The decision to step down is entirely mine. I will always have a great affection for the Record. It has been a part of my life for many years.

"And while being editor of this great Scottish institution has been a massive personal privilege, the greater privilege has been working alongside the best group of journalists in Scotland."

Nicola Sturgeon wished Foote all the best on Twitter.

She tweeted: "All the best @murrayf00te. The occasional front page aside (😉), I always enjoyed our interactions and wish you well - your departure is a big loss for @Daily_Record.
(PS I hope my column being nearly a year late had no bearing on your decision!)."

David Dick, Media Scotland digital director, will be taking over the position as editor-in-chief.

Dick is behind the popular Glasgow Live project, which has grown in popularity over the last two years.
