WITH parts of Scotland in the grip of a fierce snowstorm, one question circulating widely online is whether car insurance is valid when driving during a red weather warning.

It comes amid rumours doing the rounds on social media suggesting that drivers would not be covered if travelling during a red alert.

The truth is that drivers WILL be covered by their insurance when driving during a red weather warning.

A spokesman for the AA told the Daily Record: "It's total nonsense to say you would not be covered during a red weather warning.

"If you were caught up in the red warning on the road, are you supposed to pull over and freeze?

"If you were to do something reckless, like drive at speed on treacherous roads, and that led to an accident that would be taken into account.

"However, to say that people on the road currently in the red warning should somehow pull over and not drive, is silly."

That said, if you don't have to travel, it's best to take Transport Secretary Humza Yousaf's advice and avoid doing so.
