Nature’s Biggest Beasts, BBC 2, 8pm

THEY say size isn’t everything, but try telling that to the creatures featured in this documentary. These are all huge, and while being big has its advantages, there are plenty of challenges to be faced too – including finding enough food to keep those bodies ticking over. Giraffes, for instance, can reach leaves that other herbivores can’t, but sometimes has to feed for 18 hours to get enough nutrients. And then there’s the blood pressure issue involved in moving that neck around... The Earth’s largest land animal, the African elephant, must lug its weight around Namibia’s barren desert to find food – at least the mighty blue whale (the biggest creature to ever have lived) can move easily.

The Florida Keys is one of the top sea fishing destinations in the world, and although the sports stars have angling experience, nothing can prepare them for the power and size of the fish they are about to encounter. The action kicks off in the Gulf of Mexico and they target the monstrous goliath grouper.
