SCOTTISH Tory MP Ross Thomson hit the headlines recently for his antics on a trip to Iraq, where he said he was channeling his "inner dictator".
Clearly a fan of that model of power, it's perhaps unsurprising he took to Twitter to celebrate the unequal Union between Scotland and England.
Earlier today he tweeted: "Today is the anniversary of the Acts of #Union between Scotland and England in 1707, creating our United Kingdom. We're linked by our shared history, values and identity. Together we have created one of the most successful countries in the world"
On a week when the "hostile environment" towards immigrants crafted by the UK Tories has been so in the spotlight, it's probably a bit daft – and offensive – to say Scotland is linked by "shared values".
"Our UK " ? You sure about that? Think you'll find it's their UK and you are being used

I’m sure you DO share their values of racism, anti Europeanism, Scotophobia, contempt for the poor, demonisation of the jobless, anti-female benefits policy, militarism, social elitism, greed, money laundering, undemocratic politics and corruption. Hurrah!

I cannot think of a positive case for staying in the Union. Those who I link in the way you describe are friends and family and those not daft enough to vote Conservative. Will I still have those links in an independent Scotland? Of course I will. #ToxicTory #DemocraticDeficit

1707 was a betrayal of ordinary Scots by 'Scottish Lords' that is why they rioted on the streets. #Brexit proves the UK is no union of equals!

The Treaty of Union did not create a country but ignorance seems to be widespread among Unionists.

We need to talk, Ross. I just don't think this is working out. It's not me, it's you.

It has resulted in our devolved parliament that we voted for being undermined by a corrupt a Westminster aided by Scottish sellouts who think we are fit to be nothing more than a resource rich care home. Rip up the Treaty now!

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
