HE’S the star of Outlander who has just been picked for a major Hollywood movie, but yesterday actor Sam Heughan was just another face among the runners in the Edinburgh Marathon.

Until he got to the finish, that is when, despite a gruelling run in varying weather conditions, Heughan took time out to meet and greet fans who had waited to see him.

They must have been impressed with his time, too, as Heughan completed the 26-and-a-bit mile slog in three hours, 14 minutes.

His running vest proclaimed that he was raising funds for Cahonas Scotland, which is a national testicular cancer charity. Heughan is presently filming the fourth series of Outlander.

When production wraps, he will move to Hollywood to appear in Bloodshoot, a fantasy set in a comic book universe, alongside Van Diesel, Welsh actor Michael Sheen and Mexican star Eiza Gonzalez.

Around 35,000 people took part in this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival, which included 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon races as well as a relay and children’s runs.

Those taking part enjoyed some periods of sunshine, but the runners were hit by a haar – a cold, dreich and wet fog off the North Sea – as they progressed along the seafront at Portobello.
