PLANS for a controversial £30 million Flamingo Land tourism development at Balloch on Loch Lomond have gone on show to the public online.

Flamingo Land and Scottish Enterprise are seeking planning permission in principle for the proposal, with details to be settled later if it is given the go-ahead.

The application to the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority includes a 60-bedroom apart-hotel; 32-bedspace budget accommodation; up to 105 self-catering lodges; 20 houses; a brewery; a leisure pool and water park; plus a monorail and forest adventure rides.

Flamingo Land owns and operates a holiday resort in Yorkshire, which accommodates up to 5000 people per night, with a theme park at its heart which attracts 1.5 million visitors per season.

However, the planning statement for the Loch Lomond site claims “the proposals are tasteful tourism focused development appropriate to the setting in a national park and are not a theme park that would be incompatible with the location”.

Councillor Sally Page, who represents the Lomond ward on West Dunbartonshire, told the Dumbarton Reporter: “I am hearing enormous concern from the people of Balloch.”
