IT’S the SNP conference at the end of the week and pro-independence campaigners are making sure the Granite City gives a warm welcome to delegates and local people alike.

The Aberdeen independence movement is presenting lawyer Aamer Anwar and writer Alan Bissett in a special event at the city’s Carmelite Hotel on Thursday evening.

Bissett will speak about the power grab, the way forward and other topical things while Anwar is sure to talk about his work with Catalan professor Clara Ponsati, his battles with the UK immigration system and why independence is the only way to protect our human rights.

The event will be followed by an open mic event in the Bridge Street Social Club described as “a chance for some pre-conference drinks and a bit of fun in a supportive venue”.

It all kicks off at 7pm and tickets priced £6 and £8 are available from Eventbrite.

The following evening Bissett stars again as Aberdeen SNP present Alan Bissett: Stand-up Literature.

Novelist, playwright, performer and Falkirk boy Bissett will performs a series of Scotland-themed works.

He was heavily involved in the cultural campaign in 2014 and has addressed the topic of Scotland from numerous angles in his plays, poems and novels, using stories and satire to explore Scotland’s contradictions and eccentricities.

The event takes place at the Copthorne Hotel in Huntly Street from 7pm on Friday. Tickets priced £8 from Eventbrite.
