Britain’s Best Home Cook, BBC 1, 8pm
CLAUDIA Winkleman presents the final, in which just three more challenges stand between the remaining contestants and the title. First up is a fiddly summer favourite, followed by the familiar task of creating a dish using a key ingredient – though the judges have a few tricks up their sleeves. The contestants then have to serve up their best main course and pudding – and with dishes including beef wellington, Thai curry, carrot cake and a risky take on one of Mary’s cakes, there is plenty for the judges to get their teeth into.
The Trouble with Women with Anne Robinson, BBC 1, 9pm
A CENTURY on since suffrage, Anne Robinson is keen to meet British women from across the social spectrum and explore the most current and challenging questions around equality. On an immersive journey from the boardroom to bedroom, she employs her journalistic curiosity and fearless candour to dig into personal stories and tackle provocative issues from sexual harassment and stay-at-home dads, to growing old gracefully and the gender pay gap.
Humans, Channel 4, 9pm
CONTINUING the critically acclaimed sci-fi drama set in a parallel world where sentient synthetic humanoids try to live side by side with real people, with frequently uneasy –or as previous episodes have shown, dangerous – results. Sam reels from the events of Waltringham and Joe struggles to help him through it.
Outlander, More4, 9pm
AFTER the success of his Battlestar Galactica reboot, showrunner Ronald D Moore made a sharp left-hand turn with this Highlander-style saga based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon. IN this episode, Claire and Jamie enter the lavish world of French society in an effort to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion and prevent the battle of Culloden.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
