NICOLA Sturgeon has revealed the latest figures on the SNP's huge surge in membership, which has followed the party's walk-out at Westminster.

Social media has been filled with accounts of people saying they have joined the party in the wake of its protest at the UK's EU Withdrawal Bill power grab on Scotland.

The SNP revealed yesterday that in the 24 hours after Wednesday's walk-out, 5085 people had signed up to the SNP.

Two days on, it appears sign-ups are continuing at pace, as the First Minister gave an update on membership figures.

Sturgeon confirmed that 7526 new members had joined in the past 48 hours.

SNP MPs walked out of Prime Minister's Questions after Ian Blackford was expelled by Speaker John Bercow, as the party's Westminster leader used an archaic parliamentary procedure in a bid to raise awareness of the power grab.

Just 15 minutes had been left to the debate of the effect of the EU Withdrawal Bill on devolution the day before, and Tory filibustering meant no Scottish MP had a chance to speak.

Opposition parties have criticised the  SNP walk-out as a "stunt".

However, membership numbers have surged, and it has turned the media spotlight on the Brexit power grab.
