THE world has this week expressed its disgust at images from the United States showing young children ripped from their parents at the border with Mexico and being kept in cages.

"With the exception of Nigel Farage and his ilk," as the First Minister said.

It seems the vile nature of this policy resonates even with four-year-olds from across the Atlantic, such as Bethany MacLeod.

Bethany is from the Isle of Lewis – the home of Donald Trump's migrant mother – and she saw a picture of a young girl crying after being taken from her parents at the border.

She asked her mum Michelle why the girl was crying.

Michelle told The National: "Bethany just asked me: 'Why is that wee girl so sad?' So I thought I might as well tell her the truth.

"I just said, 'well, she's been taken away from her parents. It's not very nice'.

"It’s quite difficult to explain that sort of thing to a four-year-old. It was just sparked off by the photograph."

It wasn't until Bethany had gone to bed that Michelle found she had recorded herself singing a message for the wee girl.

"I'm quite proud of her," Michelle said. "I try to tell her the truth about things. Her feelings on that came from her though – I'd just said that families were being split up."

The video has went down a storm on social media. It's a powerful demonstration of how cruel the Trump administrations policies are.

The young star is not quite aware of how popular she is online, though.

Michelle said: "Every time I try to explain to her what Twitter is... she can understand Donald Trump, what's happening on the US border – she seems to get that fine.

"But trying to explain what Twitter is? She's just like, 'What?'"

Trump's visit to the UK, scheduled for July 13, will include a meeting with the Queen. He is also expected to travel to Scotland.
