Saving Lives at Sea, BBC2, 8pm

RESCUING souls from unforgiving waves rarely fails to stir the emotions, as this series proves. In Devon, the crew of Salcombe lifeboat station are called to two of the highest level emergencies at sea – a Mayday call to a fisherman pulled to the bottom of the sea ensnared in fishing gear, and a fire on a boat 15 miles out in the channel.

Manhunting with My Mum, C4, 10pm

PRESENTER AJ Odudu moved from Blackburn to London 10 years ago and forged a career in TV – you may know her from projects such as Big Brother’s Bit on the Side and ITV2’s The Hot Desk. Having turned 30, she is finding it hard to appreciate her success as she has no one to share it with. Her mum Florence moved from Nigeria to Blackburn in the 1970s as part of an arranged marriage. Drawing on the Nigerian tradition of parents arranging partners for their children, mother and daughter take a road trip around Nigeria to find AJ a husband. Their trip takes them to Badagry, where AJ meets Prince Joshua,with Lagos-based 34-year-old churchgoer KC also a suitor. Will AJ find Mr Right?

A Passage to Britain, BBC2, 9pm

IN the second of the three-part series, Dr Yasmin Khan examines the experiences of the passengers who arrived in Britain on the Asturias in the late 1940s. The vessel was one of the first to sail from Bombay after Independence and Partition, and Yasmin is keen to find out how these events affected the passengers’ decision to come to the UK. The search leads her to the oft-forgotten story of Britain’s displaced persons camps, where Asian migrants were housed alongside victims of the Blitz.

Long Lost Family, STV, 9pm

JULIE Roberts, a chocolate factory-worker from Birmingham, has always known she was adopted. She longs to find her mother Marion, to see what impact her teenage pregnancy had and find out what became of her. Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell also investigate the case of biker Marc Wolfe, who knows little about his birth mother, other than that she was Jewish. After the death of his adoptive mother, he decided to look for his biological mum. Marc wants to know why she gave him up.
