The Big Audition, STV, 10.45pm
“IF you get your casting right, then half your work is done on the day,” Ridley Scott once said. And he was the man who helped turn the likes of Sigourney Weaver and Brad Pitt into stars. But what of those still hungry for fame? That’s where this new series proves so compelling as it takes a look behind the scenes of the casting world. Each week, three jobs are up for grabs. Episode one features the search for a dog model, a TV shopping presenter and Henry VIII.

Have I Got News for You, BBC1, 9pm
THE show is back for its 56th series. Little has changed since it began in 1990, apart from the absence of Angus Deayton as host. A large number of famous faces have returned repeatedly, with Pointless star Alexander Armstrong the record holder, having appeared 31 times over the years. The identity of tonight’s host remains a mystery, but we do know Ian Hislop and Paul Merton will get their teeth into a summer’s worth of stories.

The Graham Norton Show, BBC1, 10.35pm

Pop impresario Gary Barlow talks about his autobiography while Jeff Goldblum performs Straighten Up and Fly Right with Imelda May.

Plus, another bunch of intrepid audience members try to recount an anecdote from the red chair.
