MOULIN Rouge dancers brought their can-can kicks to Edinburgh as the National Galleries of Scotland prepares for its first major show by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

The French artist made his name producing images for the Paris cabaret during the “Belle Epoque” that transformed the city’s creative output.

Current Moulin Rouge dancers Mathilde Tutiaux and Lucy Monaghan, originally from Glasgow, paid tribute to his work at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh yesterday to help launch a new show. This exhibition brings together 75 posters, prints, paintings and drawings by Lautrec and contemporaries such as Pierre Bonnard and Jules Cheret, the “father of the modern poster”.

Running until January, it also includes the work of UK artists drawn to the dynamic cafe culture of Paris, such as Scottish Colourist JD Fergusson.
