ONE of the most respected and certainly one of the most indefatigable activists for independence is Dr Craig Dalzell, head of policy and research for Common Weal.
He’s meeting with Yes Bellshill and Mossend on Friday from 7pm at Bellshill Academy, where he will discuss a favourite subject – namely, the currency options for an independent Scotland.
Expect several subjects to be raised such as sterlingisation, the Growth Commission, and a central bank for an independent Scotland.
Dalzell will then attend the meeting of the Common Weal South Ayrshire in the Glen Park Hotel in Ayr on Wednesday, October 17, where the Common Weal fiscal policy for an independent Scotland will be discussed from 7pm.
The fact that the hotel brews its own excellent beer on site may help to attract people.
Finally, Dalzell will be in Fort William on Friday, October 26, at the invitation of Aye2Aye Lochaber for a talk on ‘The Economy and the Growth Commission.’
Please check with the local organisers on for details of these events.
Here’s Dalzell’s own invitation to Yes groups: “As part of my role as head of policy and research for Common Weal I can often be found discussing our policy papers at public events. If your Common Weal local, Yes group, political party branch or any other organisation would like to host such an event, please get in touch.”
His arguments are convincing. Why not contact him?
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
