THE Scottish Independence Convention's (SIC) fundraiser has nearly hit £35,000 just two days after the project went live.

The SIC, which is made up of various Yes groups and representatives from across Scotland, is raising money for its new campaign organisation. The as-of-yet unnamed body aims to keep support for Scottish independence consistently above 50% in the polls.

The SIC says with a successful fundraiser, a full-time, staffed campaign group will be able to work with the grassroots independence movement to keep the Yes momentum up.

The www.thisisit.scot website has been inundated with donations – which will help the new campaigning body deliver media handling, administrative resources and more general support – since yesterday morning.

Elaine C Smith, the SIC's convenor, said: "We have no desire to get in the way of all the brilliant things that are already happening, but there are more things we need to do if we’re going to win. That’s what this is all about.

"We have an organisation plan. We have started the research that will inform a strategy. We’ve taken legal and professional advice on how to make sure this new organisation is rock-solid and that opponents can’t pick holes in it. We’ve worked really hard to get a governance model which will allow the organisation to be fast and responsive but also accountable and working for us all.

"This is it. This is the coalition of the whole independence movement. This is the result of two years of work. This is the plan we have painstakingly produced. This is how we believe we can reach the hundreds of thousands of former No voters who are potential Yes voters."

Independence supporters from a variety of groups have shown support for the project – including some familiar faces for The National's readers.
