THE organisers of the festival which celebrates the life of Scotland’s “father of democracy” Thomas Muir have urged concertgoers to hurry to get their tickets for a performance by one of Ireland’s greatest music stars.

According to the organisers of the Thomas Muir Festival, tickets for the concert by Moya Brennan – the Voice of Clannad and First Lady of Celtic Music – are going fast. She will be performing at Cadder Parish Church in East Dunbartonshire on Friday, November 23. Tickets are available for £25.

It is the highlight of the 2018 Thomas Muir Festival and Mark Hanniffy, the Consul General of Ireland in Scotland, will be there welcome those attending.”

Festival organiser Jimmy

Watson told The National the concert would celebrate Muir’s links with Ireland and his service as an elder at the church.

Watson said: “The

concert offers a unique opportunity to hear a world-class artist in an intimate venue with superb acoustics.”

The 2018 festival will celebrate the man who was persecuted and eventually banished for his work to champion reform, freedom of speech and voting rights for all.

His strong links to East Dunbartonshire are celebrated every year by the Friends of Thomas Muir, supported by East Dunbartonshire Council, local businesses and the community.

This year’s festival will include a charity fundraising walk, the annual Thomas Muir Symposium, and the East Dunbartonshire Schools Art Exhibition at the Thomas Muir Coffee Shop, Huntershill Village.

Watson added: “We’re

delighted to announce this year’s festival events which combine art, walking, education, entertainment and talks.”
