CHILDREN’S competitions at the Royal National Mòd drew to a close yesterday with prestigious awards given out.
Contests that took place included singing, poetry, reading and storytelling.
The coveted James C Macphee medal was won by Holly MacLean for girl learners between 13 and 15-years-old, with Oscar Tormod taking the boys medal. Clann Thròndairnis who won the under-19s waulking song, the under-13s folk and the under-13s action song competitions. Jonathan MacDonald, pictured, above, of Staffin won the Alasdair Macinnes Memorial Cup for 5 to 8-year-olds in Gaelic Storytelling. He also won the first-ever Jeff McLaren Memorial Shield for 5 to 6-year-old Gaelic singers.
The Fringe continued with Gaelic reading and singing sessions with Linda MacLeod, star of BBC Alba’s “Leugh le Linda”, and a concert from Mary Ann Kennedy whose “Clyde, A River Recovery” was inspired by the River Clyde – a nod to next year’s host city, Glasgow.
John Morrison, chief executive of An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “We made a special effort this year to create a Mòd that is
even more engaging and accessible to youngsters.”
