NEW research shows strong support among Scots for renewable energy use.

Almost seven out of 10 people questioned for a Survation poll conducted on behalf of Scottish Renewables supported onshore wind farms and almost eight out of 10 backed the continued development of renewable energy sources by the next Scottish Government.

Almost 77% backed offshore wind energy, 80% wave and tidal, 81% solar energy and 67% biomass.

Only 32% thought Scottish ministers should allow fracking.

There were similar levels of support for renewable sources in urban and rural areas.

Jenny Hogan, deputy chief executive of Scottish Renewables said: “Many renewable energy developments take place in rural areas, providing jobs and economic opportunities that otherwise might not have existed.”
