YOU might have missed this, but the pretendy Labour councillors of Aberdeen* have cancelled Christmas and blamed independence supporters.

Well, maybe not all of Christmas, but they seem to have binned the city’s annual Santa parade.

Every year for the last quarter-century Father Christmas and his reindeer pals have trundled down the city’s Union Street to celebrate that most magical time of year.

But not in 2019.

No, the event, which is organised by the city’s Trinity Centre, is off because of a lack of funding after the council, and the local business improvement district, backed out.

That left organisers unable to justify the costs of sorting out road closures and security.

General manager Linda Stewart said she was devastated at the event being cancelled.

She said: “We’re not happy. The security costs would be under just £3000. I would imagine the road closures might be up to £3000.

“The event has been going on for about 25 years. I think it will be a huge loss to Aberdeen. This is something we start getting phone calls about in October. Everyone has said it will be sorely missed.

“It’s frustrating because a lot of work goes into this – we book the reindeer in the early summer so I have to go back to them now. People always look forward to this – it’s just devastating.”

Former Labour councillor Willie Young knew who the real Grinch was. He retweeted a claim on Twitter that the fault was down to independence supporters.

“Aberdeen Council scraps the children’s Santa parade because they need to save £5000.

“AUOB refuse to pay the £4500 costs of their ridiculous Indy march. If they paid their dues, maybe the Christmas parade would not have been scrapped!

“Yet @theSNP – are promoting this mob”

There you are, it was the Yes supporters what did it.

*Pretendy councillors because all nine Labour councillors are currently suspended after going into administration with the Tories back in 2017.

Richard Leonard and the party have since then done, er, not really a huge amount. So they remain in limbo. Aberdeen Labour but not actual Labour.

There’s a Scottish Labour candidate at the Bridge of Don by-election. He’s made clear he won’t join Aberdeen Labour if voters in Aberdeen vote Labour. Clear?
