SCOTTISH actor Tony Curran has joined the cast of the Outlander prequel series Blood of My Blood.

The actor, known for his appearance in Doctor Who as well as his role in Mayflies alongside Martin Compston, will play Lord Lovat – the grandfather of Sam Heughan’s character Jamie Fraser in Outlander – according to Deadline.

He was nominated for Best TV Actor at the Scottish Bafta awards for his role in Mayflies (below) and won Best Male Actor at the Scottish Television Awards.

The National:

Reacting to his casting on Twitter/X, Curran said: “Delighted to be joining the incredible world that is #Outlander and being part of this wonderful cast!”

Curran also appeared in the Netflix film Outlaw King about Robert the Bruce.

The new series will tell the story of Fraser’s parents and is likely to fill the void left for fans when Outlander airs its eighth and final season, which is also being filmed in Scotland this year.

The prequel show was initially scheduled to begin filming in January, 2023 although this was postponed due to the severe storms which swept Scotland earlier this year.
