A POPULAR train simulation video game has released an update allowing players to drive ScotRail trains on several key routes, including over the iconic Forth Bridge.

An add-on developed by Stirling-based Rivet Games for the game Train Sim World 4 – by Dovetail Games – allows players to drive ScotRail trains between Edinburgh, Glenrothes and Markinch via both Dunfermline and Kirkaldy.

The update features the operator's class 170 trains, styled in Saltire livery, as well as 52 miles of line from Edinburgh Waverley to Markinch.

Following the reopening of the line to Leven in June, Rivet Games announced plans to add this into the route as part of a post-release update.

The ScotRail class 158 train is also expected to be made available for this route later in the year, as an additional add-on from Skyhook Games.

Phil Campbell, customer operations director at ScotRail, said: “It’s fantastic to see the world famous Forth Bridge come to life in this new Fife circle addition to Train Sim World 4.

“ScotRail regularly operate the class 170 trains on this route, and I’m sure players will be delighted to see this addition to the game.”
