EWAN McGregor has lodged proposals to renovate his £2 million Scottish mansion.

The Scots actor – known particularly for roles in Trainspotting and Star Wars – has lodged proposals with Perth and Kinross council according to The Courier.

This reportedly includes retrospective plans after the local authority launched an investigation into the Carse of Gowrie home due to claims alteration had been made without permission.

McGregor is looking to enlarge the master bedroom to make space for a dressing room and install CCTV cameras.

Perth and Kinross Council will make a decision on the application in the coming weeks.

The local authority said: "Following investigations and discussion with the property owner and their Agent a retrospective application for Listed Building Consent has been made seeking to regularise the alterations to the building and installation of CCTV.

"This application was validated on 9 April 2024 and a decision will be made in due course."

The actor has often spoken about wanting to return to Scotland, and said last month that Scots still tell him “to remember where I come from” – but insisted that nobody needs to.

The National:

McGregor, 52, who was born in Perthshire, said he is Scottish “wherever I am in the world”.

Speaking to the Radio Times, he said: “I left Scotland at 17 to go to drama school in London.

“I haven’t lived in Britain since 2008, I’ve been living in the States.”

“It was hard to leave Scotland,” he added.

“There’s a sense you’re turning your back. People in Scotland to this day tell me to remember where I come from. I know where I come from! I don’t need anybody to remind me.

“It’s this feeling of you’re not Scottish enough. I’m Scottish wherever I am in the world. I’m always Scottish!”
