The National:

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigner Chris Packham was left less than impressed with Matt Hancock’s appearance on Laura Kuenssberg’s show on Sunday.

The former health secretary was among those to appear on the programme to promote the London marathon.

Along with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, shadow security minister Dan Jarvis and Labour MP Thangam Debbonaire, Hancock sent in a video message to the show as he prepares to run the London Marathon.

He said: “I love the marathon. I love the crowds, the sense of excitement and I love all the runners running for a good cause.

“In my case, I’m running for the Accessible Learning Foundation – a brilliant neurodiversity charity but everybody has got their cause they’re running for and so there’s this real, real spirit.”

However, when it cut back to the studio, Packham had his head in his hands which led to laughter from the rest of the panel, including host Kuenssberg.

Asked about his reaction, he said: “Oh, it’s just Matt’s lack of insincerity.”

A number of people took to social media to react to Packham, with comedian Sooz Kempner writing: “Chris Packham reacting to Matt Hancock’s Kendall Roy energy is all of us today on #bbclaurak.”

TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan meanwhile commented: “Fair to say Chris Packham is not a fan of Matt Hancock.”

“Chris Packham reacts to Matt Hancock on behalf of the entire nation,” another said while a fourth added “we know how you feel Chris, we feel your pain”.

One other account writing on Twitter/X said: “That transition from Matt Hancock to Chris Packham with his head in his hands made my Sunday.”
