ALEX Salmond took charge at The National yesterday during his whistlestop tour of Glasgow.

One year on from the independence referendum, Salmond was in Scotland’s biggest city to sign copies of the new edition of his indyref diary, The Dream Shall Never Die.

After meeting the crowds at the St Enoch Centre, he popped into the offices of the country’s youngest daily newspaper before speaking at Glasgow University in the evening, where he launched the Gaelic version of his book.

After meeting the team, he tweeted: “Popped into the @ScotNational HQ to see the team. A great product of the referendum. #StillYes”.

The signing, organised by retailer WH Smith, ended after English-language copies of the book sold out at the mall venue.

Posing for selfies with readers, Salmond, who stepped down as SNP leader and First Minister one year ago today, emphasised his belief that self-determination for Scotland is only a matter of time. He said: “It’s the way the wind is blowing.”
