TONY BLAIR says he believes Jeremy Corbyn could be the next Labour Prime Minister.
Speaking to the BBC’s Newsnight, in an interview due to be broadcast tonight, Blair said he had changed his position in the last year and now thought it was possible the veteran politician could lead the country.
Blair said he still believed a Corbyn government imposing “an unreconstructed far left programme” would be bad for the country.
He said: “For most of my political life I’ve been saying: ‘I think this is the right way to go, and what’s more it’s the only way to win an election’.
“I have to qualify that now. I have to say ‘no – I think it’s possible you end up with Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister'.”
Yesterday he had told Sky News’s Sophie Ridge that he felt sorry for Theresa May Ridge asked the former Prime Minister if he felt sympathy for the Tory leader, and he replied: “Yeah, I do, of course, because I know what it’s like to do the job.
“I think it’s a very unsatisfactory situation where you’ve got the Prime Minister surrounded by people who are just waiting for the moment they decide to throw her off the ledge.”
Blair was making a round of TV news shows after writing over the weekend that he thought it now possible that Brexit would not happen.
