THE draw for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup threw up two all-Premiership match-ups with Hearts v Aberdeen surely the tie of the round. The winners in 2014, St Johnstone, will host Kilmarnock, while Cumbernauld Colts have been given a real incentive to win their third round match against Stirling Albion with the winner meeting Premiership side and current cup holders Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Highland League side Inverurie Loco Works must beat Annan Athletic in their third round replay – it follows a thrilling 4-4 draw between them – to host Hamilton Academical of the Premiership. Also looking at top-flight opposition are Formartine United and Cove Rangers, currently second and third respectively in the Highland League – a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell is the prize for the winner of their third round replay. Tournament favourites Celtic have a long trip south to Stranraer, currently second bottom of League One, while Rangers will face either League One side Cowdenbeath or Arbroath who currently have the second worst league position in Scotland. The glamour tie is Hearts v Aberdeen, currently lying third and second in the Premiership respectively. Back in September, Aberdeen went to Tynecastle and stunned Hearts with three second-half goals for a 3-1 scoreline in their favour . Yesterday at Hampden, Scotland assistant Stuart McCall – who won the trophy three times at Rangers – helped draw the balls alongside Scottish FA president Alan McRae . Hibs have been given a tough tie at fellow Championship side Raith Rovers. Several junior sides remain in the competition with Wick Academy or Linlithgow Rose – their match on Saturday was postponed – drawn at home against either Forfar Athletic or Queen’s Park. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
