Dundee manager Neil McCann insists winning is everything when Motherwell visit on Saturday.

McCann's side are the only Ladbrokes Premiership team without a point after three games.

Dundee have suffered one-goal defeats to St Mirren, Aberdeen and St Johnstone and a 3-0 home loss to Ayr United in the Betfred Cup, which followed a group stage loss to Dunfermline, has made it a difficult start to the season.

McCann has been keen to get his side playing the ball out from the back and his side have produced some attractive football, but he was recently criticised by former player Julen Etxabeguren for being unwilling to compromise his tactical approach.

However, McCann was clear that there was only one aim for Saturday's game.

"Football is about winning games," he said. "We have played well in every league game.

"You look at the first-half performance (against St Johnstone), we absolutely dominated it. They had a couple of breakaways, of course you have to defend against a good side now and again, but we didn't turn any of that good play into goals. And we were punished for it.

"We have made probably made three individual errors in the three league games and we have come away with nothing. I can't keep saying that good play deserves points.

"If you don't take chances in front of goals then you get nothing in football. Equally, if you can't keep a clean sheet you don't even get one point.

"So we need to pull all that together. But the most important thing on a Saturday? Winning games of football. It doesn't matter how you get there.

"I want to play attractive football, but if it needed to go a wee bit direct towards the latter stages of a game or to do something different, I will do that, because all that is important is to win.

"At this stage of the season you want to start getting wins on board but I want to do it in the right way."
