A LAND mine blast in eastern Ukraine has killed an international observer with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), an independent monitoring group.
The OSCE tweeted after the incident that one of its members had died and that two were wounded.
A patrol vehicle, operating as part of the special monitoring mission in the country, hit a land mine in Luhansk, a region in eastern Ukraine currently held by rebels.
Sebastian Kurz, Austrian Foreign Minister and chairman of the OSCE, called for a "thorough investigation", and asked that those responsible be held accountable.
He also offered his condolences to the family of the victim, and expressed his hopes for an injured monitor to recover soon.
The patrol was made up of six members and two armoured vehicles, with rebels commenting that the group strayed off from its main path, suggesting this may have been the cause of the incident.
The OSCE is an independent monitoring group made up of 57 member states.
