JIMMY Carter has been released from hospital after being treated for dehydration, a spokeswoman for the former US president said.

Deanna Congileo said he was discharged from St Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada, on Friday morning.

She added that he attended a devotional on Friday morning to begin the last day of a Habitat for Humanity home-building project.

Representatives for Mr Carter and Habitat for Humanity have said the 92-year-old became dehydrated on Thursday morning while volunteering at the project in Winnipeg and was taken to hospital for rehydration as a precaution.

Ms Congileo said Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn are grateful to well-wishers.

The Carters are prominent backers of the Atlanta-based building charity and participate in an annual home-building event.
