SHINTY players may not be able to compete during the ongoing sporting shutdown but the athletes at Women’s Camanachd Association (WCA) will still be making the most of the time available to them by raising funds for charity.
SCOTLAND’S international shinty players maintained their winning ways with their fifth victory in a row in the Mowi-sponsored mixed-code game over Ireland’s hurlers.
IN their final match of the 2019 Mowi Premiership season, champions Kingussie lost 1-0 to Kyles Athletic away at Tighnabruaich. The Badenoch side would lift the Premiership trophy after the match regardless, with the title already in the bag going into this one.
FORT William celebrated their success in winning the Mowi National Division as well as their promotion to shinty’s Premier League with a 4-2 home win over second-placed Glasgow Mid Argyll at An Aird.
Kingussie finally clinched the Mowi Premier League title on Saturday after a 4-1 away victory against Kilmallie at the Canal Park. It gives Kingussie their first Premiership title since 2009 and means that their final match of the season against Kyles Athletic will now be of academic interest only.

KINGUSSIE took a further step towards winning the Mowi Premier League with a hard-fought 5-4 away win over Caberfeidh at Strathpeffer on Saturday. Coming as it did on the day that main challengers Newtonmore slipped up at home, losing both points to Oban Camanachd, Kingussie now have a three-point breathing space over their Badenoch rivals.
HORRENDOUS weather conditions in Fort William saw referee Robert Baxter abandon the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final between Newtonmore and Oban Camanachd shortly after the halfway mark.
THE main feature of Saturday’s shinty card was the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup final at Kingussie where Skye eventually lifted the trophy for the second time in the club’s history.
WITH Saturday’s torrential rain wiping out the action in the Premiership, the focus switched to Smith Park. Farr on the south shore of Loch Ness is where home side Boleskine defeated visitors Lewis 5-0 in what was for both sides’ final game of the season in Mowi North Division 2.
