IT appears that there is some hype creeping into the issue of the wood-burning stove ban as anyone, including older residents, who are relying on a wood-burning stove during the energy crisis will be able to continue using it indefinitely (Wood-burning stove ban provokes anger, Apr 10).

There are probably very few people using log burners who are actually burning their own or fallen wood as their cheapest means of heating during the energy crisis because of the lack of such wood and the rules on fuel quality and air pollution.

Surely someone building a new house in an area where power outages are likely to last for weeks will be aware of this, and design a building that can cope with such an event. There are options other than a wood burner such as solar, wind or water for power outages lasting weeks for a house that cannot get exemption from the new regulations.
