AS Westminster continue apace spending more than they have coming in, and with their reluctance to tax the wealthy and land owners more equitably, surely the penny must be dropping by now.

Paying for an existing or new nuclear deterrent is taking much-needed income away from domestic spending such as the NHS, or MoD for conventional expenditure.

Has nobody ever taken the view that we could cancel all our nuclear weapons and America would pay us to host theirs on our island which acts as their static North Atlantic aircraft carrier?

In any case, our deterrent would, if ever fired, probably be hacked into en route and redirected back towards us!
