Here are the picks of tonight's TV...

Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In
(C4, 7.30pm)

DIRECTED by his son Jason, this deeply revealing documentary shows that Sir Alex Ferguson is much more than merely a former Aberdeen manager.

During 26 years at Manchester United, he won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues, and has been rewarded with a knighthood and a stand named in his honour at his beloved Old Trafford. However, in light of his near-death experience with a brain haemorrhage in 2018, aged 77, he recalls memories of a boyhood apprenticeship on the banks of the Clyde, where he led a shipyard apprentices’ strike.

Plus, there’s a look at his playing days with Rangers and record-breaking managerial career with Aberdeen, which saw the Dons win three Scottish Premier League titles, four Scottish Cups, one League Cup and the European Cup-Winners’ Cup. There’s also a look at his life with wife Cathy, whom he married in 1966.

Depp vs Heard
(C5, 8pm)

JOHNNY Depp and Amber Heard have spent the last six weeks locked in court battling a defamation case.

Accusations of adultery, drink and drug abuse, and allegations of domestic and sexual abuse from both parties are unlike anything that La La Land has seen before.

This documentary looks at how this complicated story has become far more than a case about defamation. This is a window into a world of toxic relationships, addiction, broken families, and abuse, which no one in Hollywood would ever want the world to know.

Rick Stein’s Long Weekends
(BBC4, 8pm)

RICK Stein’s series of long weekends across Europe concludes with a visit to Palermo in northern Sicily. The city’s cuisine has Arab, north African, French, Spanish and Italian influences. Pine nuts, raisins, almonds and golden breadcrumbs are combined with local sun-ripened tomatoes, lemons and the finest olive oil to create astonishing dishes. Palermo is synonymous with Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi and the setting for one of Rick’s favourite novels – The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. He arrives in time to see locals celebrating a festival in honour of Palermo’s patron saint, Rosalia. At home, he cooks marsala chicken, a Sicilian classic.

Later – with Jools Holland
(BBC2, 10.30pm)

JOINING Jools at the Alexandra Palace Theatre is Kae Tempest. The London-based spoken word performer, poet and musician’s fourth album The Line Is a Curve fuses spoken-word poetry with skeletal production, painting a picture of contemporary UK culture.

Also on tonight’s show are Leicester rock legends Kasabian, three-time Mobo Award-nominated rapper Kojey Radical, new jazz voice Judi Jackson and London rapper Knucks. All these artists will be performing in the round, while Kae and Kojey will select some of their favourite Later... performances from the archive.
