FURTHER proof arrived today that Neil Findlay, the Scottish Labour Brexit spokesperson and infamous National-hater, really doesn't seem to get Twitter.
Or that time he made himself look stupid on Twitter for the umpteenth time?
Well, he's at it again. Earlier today, Findlay launched his 'big idea' scheme, asking members at the Scottish Labour branch office conference for ideas which could be included in their next manifesto.
Today I have launched The Big Idea - get involved and send me your “Big Idea” that could be included in our next manifesto #SLPbigidea pic.twitter.com/p8xEkMSWpX

Any ideas Neil receives are, of course, unlikely to be realised with the current hapless leadership miles from government, but lots of people decided to reply to his tweet asking for suggestions anyway.
Sadly for Neil, we don't think they were the kind of 'big ideas' he was looking for ... and one in particular kept cropping up again and again!
Well done everybody! Here are the best ones:
Scottish independence is a good idea you should put in your manifesto.

Is this an admission your branch has none of its own? Yup, thought so.

My idea would be an independent Scotland, getting governments and policies that the 5 million Scottish residents vote for. Can't believe that it hasn't happened already

Here's a 'Big' idea for Scottish Labour. Stop echoing the language of Farage on blaming immigrants for driving down wages and get behind the Scottish Government in defending the powers of our Parliament. Also, spell the name of your founder correctly.... https://t.co/XiYGRisB04

How about ensuring that MSPs in the Scottish branch of London Labour are taught the difference between reserved and devolved powers. They appear unable to understand the diffence.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
