NICOLA Sturgeon knows a thing or two about election success.
While leader of the SNP, her party has enjoyed unprecedented results in European and Westminster elections, while securing itself as Holyrood’s dominant force.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson, meanwhile, has an equally as impressive CV – in the eyes of Ruth Davidson.

Fresh off leading her party to its worst electoral performance since 1865 – winning just 11.6% in the European Parliament poll – Davidson was in buoyant mood and ready to attack her opponent.
She took to social media to urge her SNP counterpart to change her tune and talk about something other than independence – a concept which Davidson is dead against, in case you haven’t heard.
“Ho hum. As surely as night follows day …” she wrote in a tweet suggesting the First Minister has misled voters by urging all anti-Brexit Scots to vote for the SNP in the EU elections.

Presumably concerned that Davidson had lost sight of what’s important, Sturgeon offered the Tory some handy tips on how to improve her party’s performance.

The First Minister tweeted: “Winning another election has made this a good week for @theSNP – watching our opponents learn no lessons from their worst defeat since 1865 is just a bonus.”

For as long as Nicola Sturgeon is around, every day is a school day for Ruth Davidson.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
