SNP politicians have sent their best wishes to Winnie Ewing as she celebrated her 90th birthday.
Madame Ecosse had a "wee party with family" to celebrate the big day, according to her son and SNP MSP Fergus Ewing.
He wrote on Twitter: "Today my Mother, Winnie Ewing, is having a wee party with family to mark her 90th Birthday. She sends her warm regards to all her friends throughout Scotland and Europe and her thanks for their well wishes today. Stop the world, Scotland wants to get on more than ever!"

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sent her good wishes, too: "Happy 90th Birthday to Winnie Ewing. Victor of the 1967 Hamilton by-election, known simply as Madame Ecosse in the European Parliament, mother of the 1999 @ScotParl and much loved by all of us in @theSNP. As she famously said - ‘stop the world, Scotland wants to get on’."

SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford marked Ewing's birthday at Prime Minister's Questions.
He said: "Can I also pay tribute to Winnie Ewing who has her 90th birthday today – the only parliamentarian to sit in this house, the Scottish parliament and the European parliament. We remember the words of Winnie, 'stop the world Scotland wants to get on'."
Blackford joined the rest of the party's MPs to record a happy birthday video message, posted on Twitter.

The mother of Scotland’s first devolved parliament, we all live in the shadow of this giant of Scottish politics and her famous words today are still so powerful - "stop the world, Scotland wants to get on". pic.twitter.com/4PsJ2z4UoF
Ewing's victory in the Hamilton by-election in 1967 is considered to be the start of rise of the modern SNP.
The 38-year-old lawyer beat the Labour candidate in the constituency against all the odds – in her first ever campaign.

A number of other SNP figures sent their congratulations to Ewing.
Happy 90th birthday to Winnie Ewing. Here’s a link to her maiden speech, made at 17:43 on the 20th November, 1967. Winnie used her speech to argue for a reduction of the voting age to 18: ‘I am always on the side of youth’. Chapeau! https://t.co/N2lgpD9mai pic.twitter.com/JsM8BwW7f0

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
