NOEL Gallagher will be hoping Scottish fans don’t look back in anger next time he travels north for a gig.
The former Oasis star, famed for his uncanny sense of self-awareness, will definitely maybe come to regret saying Scotland "is like a third world country".
Endearing himself to Scottish fans further, the comments were made during an attack on Scots singer Lewis Capaldi.
Gallagher may even have some explaining to do to his wife Sara MacDonald, who is from Edinburgh.

The Manchester-raised singer’s spat with Capaldi broke out after he said he did not know who the Scot was in an interview on Radio X.
Capaldi, in typically self-deprecating fashion, responded to the interview by playing the clip before appearing on stage at Glastonbury.

Gallagher, speaking to Variety, subsequently said: "F****** Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes.
"The greatest day of his life that I slagged him off or called him an idiot.
"Well, I know you're Scottish and all that but f****** hell. It is like a third world country but for f***'s sake, man, you must have had a better day than this. Surely."
Capaldi responded on Twitter by editing his face on to an image of Chewbacca and changing his name on the site to Chewis Capaldi.

As you may expect, Gallagher’s remarks have not gone down well with Scots on social media.
Comedian Rab Florence declared victory for Scotland in the “patter war” with England.
Lewis Capaldi vs Noel Gallagher is the total no-contest domination that is the Scotland vs England patterwar made flesh.

Several stood up for Scotland.
Iv lived in England and I was born in Wales. There is no doubt in my mind that the Scottish NHS and Scottish education is streets ahead of Wales and England. Noel Gallagher doesn't know hat he is talking about.

So Noel Gallagher has gone from a respected musician to a bitter old man. He can call Lewis Capaldi all he wants but he just keeps getting annihilated in return. 😂 pic.twitter.com/AneCg2KxjH

The 90s are well and truly back with Noel trying to recreate the Blur-Oasis spat. Time for me to break out the combat trousers-vest combo. https://t.co/9I9uvWfFuO

Noel Gallagher - struggling to win a 'War Of Words' with Lewis Capaldi, so decides the best plan of action is to insult an entire country. 🤨 .
Aye, Noel, that'll work.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
