WITH the UK Government’s decision to formally go for No Deal, the potential for a Section 30 order has now been completely extinguished. The UK Government has now positioned itself as “No deal with the EU” ruler of the British Kingdom, completely eschewing the notion of ruling the four nations with any degree of consent from the nations themselves.

As a result, there now appears little or no point in deploying any more political expertise at Westminster, when it could be utilised in Scotland for the benefit of the people of Scotland. So it would appear that SNP MPs now need to consider adopting the policy of being permanent absentees to the palace of Westminster, much along the lines that Sinn Fein have adopted to date.

THE in-built democratic deficit of the Union in favour of England, and UK majoritarianism, means it is mathematically impossible for any election, whether it be a UK or Scottish, to yield independence. Discussion of voting permutations is pointless as it brings us no closer to independence, even if the SNP were to garner 100% of votes from the Scottish electorate.

The right to self-determination is a cardinal principle in international law and enshrined by UN charter as follows: “All peoples have the right to self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.”

Why then does the Scottish Government not enact the Claim of Right by appealing to the UN and hold a referendum under their auspices with no interference from the UK?

THE producers of the brand-new Invisible Man movie deny that the identity of the stand-in for the invisible man has been revealed. They claim that there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that it is Boris Johnson.

Having been told that it emanated from No 10, a source close to the Prime Minister described the allegation as absurd. When questioned about the secrecy surrounding the matter in Downing Street a spokesman said that the Prime Minister had been extremely busy, that his daily diary was a matter of record and he was committed at all times to the transparency of government.

A furious Dominic Cummings (pictured) said he had seen right through the allegation claiming it “a smear campaign” from the Marxist left and is launching an inquiry to determine who the real stand-in for the invisible man was.

AS a member of the SNP for 53 years, many of them spent in Central Edinburgh, and as a former parliamentary candidate who has had the privilege of working alongside such great figures as Billy Wolfe, Gordon Wilson, Douglas Henderson, Stephen Maxwell and Margo MacDonald, I appeal to all members of the constituency to give a fair and polite hearing to all those who may become our Scottish Parliament candidate.

As an active SNP member, I have never joined any group or faction. Now, as the honorary president of Edinburgh Central SNP, I appeal to fellow members: don’t make this a factional dispute.

SO Eric Trump thinks that Patrick Harvie is “an irrelevant and spineless” politician, whose comments were “disgusting, reckless and unbecoming” and that he is “a disgrace. This man is obviously fluent in the use of a spell checker.

I wonder if Mr Trump may know someone nearer to home to whom these adjectives may be more aptly and accurately applied, along with following additions – sexist, racist, profane, fraudulent, mendacious, whose North Korean “lover” described as a “dotard”. This makes Mr Harvie the second politician to be “savaged by a dead sheep”.
