A SCOTTISH public health official has hit out at Piers Morgan's views on mass gatherings during the pandemic.
National clinical director of the Scottish Government, Jason Leitch, clashed with Morgan over the UK's approach to Covid-19.
Morgan asked if there should have been a mass gathering at the weekend and Leitch said he would have no problems going to public health meetings.
He said: "Really, so even as the rest of the world locks down, you as a public health official in the UK think it's perfectly okay to go to mass gatherings?"
"I do for public health reasons," Leitch responded before being interrupted by Morgan who said: "How can there be a public health reason in telling people to wash their hands every two hours, which is the only advice, while you sing Happy Birthday, and then going to a group of 12,000 people all sweating ... around each other. How does any of that make sense?"
Leitch hit back, telling Morgan: "I'm not sure where your masters in public health came from Piers but public health is not as straight forward."
Morgan said he's "a master of common sense" while Susanna Reid told him to "listen to the clinical director."
"You're asking for information, allow him to tell you what the information is," she added.
If you missed the mother of all take-downs here it is: in Red Corner, Piers Morgan, raging this morning about Covid-19 and in the blue corner, Prof Jason Leitch, a man in the know about #covidー19uk

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
