BORIS Johnson will be leading the UK Government’s coronavirus briefing, it has been confirmed.

The press conference was due to be held by Housing Minister Robert Jenrick, but Downing Street announced that the Prime Minister will take over.

It comes amid increasing calls for the PM’s top adviser Dominic Cummings to be sacked after he broke lockdown rules to travel to Durham.

The briefing, initially scheduled for 4pm, has been pushed back to 5pm.

It will be Johnson's third appearance at the daily press conference since being discharged from hospital on April 12.

He will be joined by NHS England medical director Professor Stephen Powis.

The Prime Minister is reported to have told allies over the weekend that he would not throw Cummings “to the dogs” as he put up a "protective ring” around his most senior advisor.
