THERE have been no reported Covid-19 deaths in Scotland for three days in a row, Scottish Government figures show.

Today seven new coronavirus cases were recorded, but no deaths. The number of people who have died after receiving a positive coronavirus test remains at 2490.

The Scottish Government’s latest figures now show that there have been 18,340 positive Covid-19 cases recorded since the beginning of the pandemic – although this is understood to be an underestimate.

Today’s figures come after face coverings were made compulsory in shops in Scotland, and the First Minister confirmed the nation was entering phase three of lockdown.

Speaking yesterday, she told the daily briefing: “We have been in lockdown for more than three months now but being in lockdown ourselves has meant that the virus has also been in lockdown.

“As we come out of lockdown unfortunately we let it out again too.

“We have to work in a sense even harder to make sure it doesn’t get those opportunities to spread.”
