THAT the youngest child of disgraced newspaper publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell is presently the centre of the US sex trafficking scandal, because of her alleged role in the murky activities of the late Jeffrey Epstein, is maybe no surprise. Controversy, scandal, and gaudy but glib showmanship were all part of Maxwell Senior's lifestyle.

It was he who flaunted himself in a show of Union Jacks and who embezzled the entire pension fund of his employees, robbing them of a secure retirement they had trustingly compiled.

Ghislaine Maxwell, it goes without saying, had no moral funding from her father, whatever was her financial inheritance and what amount of this was pension fund loot.

It is a salutary sad and sorry case of too much money and greed, and too typical of the misuse of power by people who strut the public stage without one iota of concern for the less privileged. It is not a happy commentary on humankind.
