MORE than three-quarters of people in Scotland would back another nationwide lockdown in the event of a second wave of coronavirus, a new poll suggests.
In the study carried out by YouGov, 51% of people “strongly support” the idea of full measures being introduced in the event of a second wave, with a further 25% “somewhat supportive” of the idea.
Meanwhile just under one in ten (8%) of Scots would “strongly oppose” the second lockdown, with another 8% “somewhat opposing” the idea.
The remaining 8% of the responded as “don’t know”.
The YouGov poll surveyed 4302 adults.
It comes as figures in Scotland revealed there had been no deaths of people who tested positive for the virus recorded in the past week – meaning the toll remains at 2491 – and only one in the past 15 days.
The First Minister described this as the “incredible progress” made since the country went into lockdown.
In the last few weeks Scots have been able to enjoy more freedoms, including the reopening of pubs, restaurants and the tourism sector.
Another YouGov poll of the same number of adults revealed that 10% of people in Scotland would not have a coronavirus vaccine when it became available.
The vast majority – around 67%, said they would take the vaccine, with a further 23% responding as “don’t know”.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
