AN 18th century mansion in the Scottish Borders is to unveil two specially commissioned sculptures along with new studios and workshops for artists and craftspeople to “rebuild and flourish” after the pandemic.

More than £1 million of private money has been invested in the Creative Spaces project at Marchmont House, which aims to provide high quality, affordable work spaces.

A special event marking the launch of the studios and workshops with talks, tours, films and catering by celebrity chef Valentine Warner will take place on September 19. It will also include the unveiling of two new pieces by sculptor Charles Poulsen.

Hugo Burge, Marchmont’s director, said: “Artists and craft makers are facing incredibly tough times at the moment, but we believe it’s essential for our culture, society and economy to support them so they can rebuild and flourish.”

He added that it was a “huge step” towards their goal of becoming a “home for creatives of many kinds”.
