A UNIONIST group has announced that it plans to "burn The National".
The Majority, which launched in June, says on its website that it was set up "expose Nationalism as it is", saying Scottish Nationalists are "ugly, misinformed and bigoted".
The group tweeted: "Today's mission: Burn The National!"
But a follow-up tweet warned followers not to start fires, saying: "We're burning a copy for an article header image. No need for you lot to start fires all over Scotland!"
Note: We're burning a copy for an article header image. 🔥 No need for you lot to start fires all over Scotland! 🔥🔥🔥

The tweet received backlash from Twitter users, with many comparing it to banned books being set on fire.

Thanks for pointing out that the SNP's founders were actively collaborating with the Nazis.

I've seen a lot of facism on twitter. This is the first time I've seen a call to burn newspapers. They then claim they don't want fires all over Scotland. https://t.co/IyXgRmqgwf

How do you feel about a society in which the written word is burned? & what’s your position on inciting fellow Scots to start burning texts they don’t agree with? https://t.co/6zDdofPjMk

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
