NICOLA Sturgeon is set to make a televised statement tonight on new coronavirus measures being introduced across Scotland.
Boris Johnson will make a similar statement at 8pm on measures due to be implemented in England, and then the First Minister will speak at 8.05pm.
Nicola Sturgeon will also set out the changes in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon at 2.20pm.
The UK Government has already indicated this morning that pubs will close at 10pm across England, while ministers have U-turned on advice to workers to return to offices – instead pushing the home-working message.
In Scotland there is speculation that new measures will revolve around meetings between households. In the west of Scotland there are already measures preventing people from going into other households or hosting others in their home.
The First Minister previously said coronavirus is spreading again in Scotland and "further and urgent action" is needed to stop the increase, warning if left unchecked it will lead to more cases, people in hospital and deaths.
She said the Scottish Government is prepared to introduce "a package of additional measures" but will aim to avoid a full-scale lockdown such as the one imposed in March.
Sturgeon’s 8.05pm announcement will be aired on BBC One Scotland.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
