A FURTHER 800 coronavirus cases have been recorded over the last 24 hours, the First Minister has said.
Speaking at the Scottish Government’s daily Covid-19 briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said that accounted for 13.2% of people newly tested.
The First Minister also announced that there have been two deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in the past 28 days, taking the total under that measurement to 2532.
Of the new cases 303 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 167 were in Lanarkshire and 164 were in Lothian.
The remaining 196 cases were spread across nine other health board areas.
The Scottish Government data showed that 262 people were in hospital, an increase of 44 from the previous day. There were three more people in intensive care, taking the total to 25.
The briefing comes a day before the First Minister will announce new restrictions aimed at reducing the spread of the virus.
Sturgeon told viewers: "I will then make a statement to Parliament tomorrow where I'll give a more detailed update of the current situation and set out any decisions about further measures we've reached and the reasons for them."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
