DOMINIC Cummings received a pay rise of around £50,000 per year after the Tories won the 2019 General Election, new figures have revealed.

The special adviser to the Prime Minister was listed in the 2019 Annual Report on Special Advisers as earning between £95,000-£99,999 a year.

In the latest report, released today, Cummings is listed as earning between £140,000-£144,999.

The jump in salary represents a rise as high as 51%, depending where in the given bracket his true salary fell.

The Times's deputy political editor reported one special advisor a saying the huge pay rise was "rank hypocrisy" as others in Downing Street have received raises of around 1%, if at all.

Lee Cain, the former head of Downing Street communications whose dismissal prompted Cummings's, was listed as earning between £140,000-£145,000 in both the 2019 and 2020 annual reports.

The report notes that the two no longer work for Downing Street, but states: "Lee Cain and Dominic Cummings are in the process of leaving their government posts ... [but] both individuals were in PB4 and pay band £140,000-£144,999."

PB4 refers to the pay band of the special advisors. Any salaries over £70,000 per annum are detailed further.

The pay bands are as follows:

PB1 - £40,500 - £60,500
PB2 - £57,000 - £80,005
PB3 - £73,000 - £102,000
PB4 - £96,000 - £145,000

Luke Graham, the head of Downing Street's "Union Unit", is in pay band 3. He takes home between £90,000-£94,999 per year.

Allegra Stratton, the recent hire to be the face of Downing Street's communications, is in pay band 4. She earns between £125,000-£129,999 per annum.

Other revelations from the report include the expansion of the Scotland Office. In 2016 the secretary of state for Scotland had just one special adviser, Jennifer Donnellan. She was in pay band 2, which was then between £53,000-£69,999.

In 2017, Magnus Gardham joined the office and was being paid £65,000 per year. This was more than Donnellan, whose specific pay was not mentioned.

Now, Alister Jack, who became Secretary of State for Scotland in 2019, currently has three special advisors.

These three men, John Cooper, Geoff Mawdsley, and Gardham, are all in pay band 2 though their specific salaries are not given, meaning they earn less than £70,000 each per annum.
